Most of the 20inch monitors have similar dimensions, mostly thanks to short stand (part between base and panel itself). Because of that it is not easy to achieve ergonomically right height, if you don't have worktable with raised stand or mount solution for monitor. Samsung 2053BW shares same faults with its competitors but it also has few advantages.

Base has swivel option that allows this monitor to be rotated around vertical axis. Construction details cannot be discovered (it's sealed in plastic casing) but we assume that it's not that complicated and expensive solution. Nevertheless monitors of this size and class rarely have this option implemented. High gloss and high quality build are main attributes of this monitor. Bottom edge of this monitor is accentuated with transparent plastic that has LED on its right side and results with interesting visual effect. This is the cheap and effective way to achieve unusual visual effect. But this is also perfect example how functionality is sacrificed over design. Labels for OSD controls are written on transparent material while control keys are hidden behind it, which resulted in hard to reach OSD controls. This is ergonomic flaw that will affect all users that don't have white worktables. OSD menu is rich with options and that's no surprise since this monitor is signed by Samsung. There is one programmable key that can be assigned one function (the one that is used frequently) but also options for color correction, choice of input format, RTA (Response Time Accelerator) and many others.

Viewing angles are good, considering that this is TN+film panel, we are lured to say that viewing angles are great. Panel shows most deformations when looked from above and this is the best variant. After thorough inspection of test lab for any rays of summer sunlight coming from windows we can conclude that this model is capable of holding backlight where it should be: in the back. We didn't see for long time monitor that displays black as real black and above all with consistency all over the panel as Samsung 2053BW does. Display of colors is also exceptional. Colors are vivid with good dynamics and smooth color transitions. Color tones are nicely differenced in dark and light parts of color spectrum. On the other side you can use this monitor even for fast paced FPS games. To be honest all new TFT monitors perform very well in this kind of applications especially when it comes to Samsung monitors. InsideHW
