We love our portable electronics, and simply cannot escape without a mobile phone, tablet PC, and digital multimedia devices in tow. Some of us take along eBook readers everywhere we go, or carry a Bluetooth wireless headset for calls on the road. All of these devices require power to operate, but when you’re away from home it’s hard to keep batteries charged after prolonged use or during long trips.

Practically every vehicle has a 12V cigarette lighter receptacle, but most lack sufficient USB power outlets. That’s where Archeer car chargers come in, utilizing Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology on adapters with as many as three USB ports and power output up to 5 volts/3.0 amps. In this article for Benchmark Reviews, we test a pair of Archeer QC 2.0 chargers for fast-charge functionality while on a week-long road trip.

Quick Charge 2.0 is a power charging technology that requires less time for charging than a standard charger, and the adoption of Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology enables these power adapters to charge at speeds up to 75% faster than conventional charging technology.

Car charger adapters are perfect for older-model vehicles that lack factory-installed USB power outlets. Even some vehicles equipped with USB ports lack the amperage or technology to charge devices quickly. These Archeer car chargers are an easy upgrade that fit into the standard 12V DC receptacle.

The 12V receptacle on my center console is designed for accessories, which is why it didn’t come with a cigarette lighter, but unfortunately there are no USB ports. By adding an Archeer Quick Charge 2.0 adapter, I can easily update my vehicle and get more use out of portable electronics when I travel or take long road trips. This is ideal during extended travel, when battery power for items like tablets or phones run low after watching a movie.

The Archeer 3-port AR-QC-C3 adapter I tested simultaneously connects two standard USB type A devices, and a USB type C device, all while offering Quick Charge 2.0 intelligent charging technology.archeer-3-port-car-charger-specifications

On my daily driver there are two 12V DC ‘cigarette lighter’ receptacles in the center console and near the cargo area. The receptacle in the console powers my dashcam, but by using a charger adapter I can power the dashcam with a A-to-C USB cable, along with other electronic devices using their standard USB charging cable.

The other car charger adapter tested was Archeer’s 2-port IBD301 model, which features dual USB type A output with Quick Charge 2.0 intelligent technology. The charger fits firmly into the DC receptacle, and sits about 1.5″ above the surface. There are two 5-volt  2.4-amp USB ports on this adapter, suitable for large electronic devices like tablet PCs, as well as small devices such as smartphones and headsets.

Both kits include a USB 3.0 type A to C cable, which will fit most all Android-based phones and tablets. iPhone and iPad users can keep this as a spare for other devices, since Apple products use a proprietary connection.

Archeer QC2 Car Charger Conclusion

During my week-long road trip, I used both Archeer car charger adapters with a variety of electronic devices. By comparison, the Quick Charge 2.0 technology was more efficient than the conservative pace afforded by the cars built-in USB ports. More importantly, these car chargers allowed for many devices to charge at once, which was important since we stopped and used these devices to capture our trip and communicate with destinations.

Available online at Amazon for $12.73 (2-port IBD301) and $18.99 (3-port AR-QC-C3), this is a very affordable price to pay for such a useful vehicle upgrade. While newer vehicle may accommodate one or two devices, this is a simple and effective way of supplementing the utility of any modern automobile. Durable and effective, I highly recommend having an Archeer car charger adapter with you for daily use or vacation travel. Worth every penny!

Final Score: 9.0 out of 10.
