Poly-Control Danalock Smart Lock Device Debuts
The new Danalock from Poly-Control enables users to lock and unlock their home from anywhere in the world using a smartphone — no keys or pin codes needed. With an introductory price of just $99, the unique smart lock compatible with both Z-Wave and Bluetooth, is the only full-featured wireless home access solution available now at this price point.
With the launch of Danalock, Poly-Control, the Danish manufacturer of home automation solutions, becomes the first company to take an affordable smart lock product out of the prototype stage and into the consumer market.
Poly-Control CEO, Henning Overgaard, says his company’s mission is to get the keyless experience out to users who wouldn’t normally install a smart lock due to cost and complexity. He looks forward to showcasing Danalock at CES 2014, Jan 7 – 10, at the Z-Wave alliance booth # 20800 in South Hall 1:
“Installing Danalock takes a screwdriver (included in the box), 10 minutes, and a download of our app to a smartphone. The smart lock fits onto existing deadbolts and mortise locks anywhere in the world and there’s no wiring or exchange of hardware.”
Once installed, Danalock uses Z-Wave or Bluetooth Smart technologies to wirelessly connect to the Danalock smartphone app. From here, users press a button to open or close the door, they can send virtual keys to friends, family, babysitters, contractors, or weekend guests and grant and revoke access for certain time frames. The log system lets the user know who accessed their home, when, and for how long. Danalock can be set to sense the approaching homeowner or guest granted access and will unlock and welcome them into the home, hands free. The new smart lock can also be programmed to automatically lock the door after the user enters.
Danalock is the only smart lock available with both or Z-Wave and Bluetooth Smart and there are three unique versions to choose from: one with Bluetooth Smart for instant use with any smartphone, one with Z-Wave that integrates with existing home automation systems, and one with both technologies. All versions are available in two aesthetically-pleasing designs; Danalock Square and Danalock Circle. “We wanted to give users unrivaled flexibility by offering Bluetooth Smart for the short-range features and the Z-Wave option that has the ability to remotely control the lock from anywhere in the world,” says Overgaard.
Not only is Danalock available to ship now at the lowest price point in the market, unlike other smart lock solutions, Danalock allows users to distribute unlimited virtual keys without additional charges. Also, there are no monthly fees associated with the service.
“Once you purchase the lock, that’s it. You don’t need to pay for anything else,” says Overgaard. “Security is, of course, of utmost importance. Poly-Control relies on the same secure communications technology used by financial institutions for online banking, giving users the peace of mind of knowing that virtual keys can never be copied.”
“In terms of power consumption, we use Z-Wave and Bluetooth Smart since these are the most power-saving technologies available, giving our users greater battery life when compared to other wireless connection solutions such as WiFi,” explains the Poly-Control CEO.
Danalock uses batteries so locks will stay on even if electricity goes out. Sensors let the user know, with LED indicators and via email, when batteries need replacing —approximately every two years.

Z-Wave: When connecting via Z-Wave, it’s not necessary to be in front of the Danalock door to open it. Users simply access their Z-Wave home automation router remotely from their smartphone or computer and open or lock the door from anywhere in the world. Z-Wave also enables management of other users remotely, just like the Bluetooth Smart version.
Bluetooth Smart: Using a wireless standard supported by all smartphones, users open Danalock from their phone app when they physically approach the Danalock enabled door. From anywhere in the world, users can grant and revoke access for other users too. Either directly from their smartphone app or from Poly-Control’s desktop application E-Key.
Using regular batteries, Danalock works even if the home power or WiFi is down. Danalock is installed on the interior side of door, so deadbolts still work with physical keys in addition to the smartphone. If the smartphone is lost, Danalock can easily be deactivated.
